For the February 2023 issue, Chimia dedicates an entire issue on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of chemists. The guest editors invited several Swiss research chemists to contribute and share their perspectives on AI method development and implementation.

In their article, Atinary shares their vision to upgrade R&D from today’s Edisonian trial-and-error approach to smart experiment planning driven by AI and Machine Learning (ML) and digitized data management systems. The article outlines the key technologies to embrace for expediting innovation and accelerating discovery across chemistry, materials science and life science.

With smart experiment planning that is data-driven and guided by AI/ML, researchers across sectors and industry can make better use of their data and find breakthroughs, much faster.

Topics covered in the article:

  • Today’s state-of-the-art technologies used in modern R&D facilities
  • Machine Learning as the next-generation experiment planning
  • the importance of data interpretability
  • Self-driving labs: an integrated platform where cutting-edge technologies meet
Representation of the data-driven closed-loop optimization for ML driven experiment planning.
